#10. Gourmet Green Tea at Ippodo

Ippodo have been retailing the finest green teas in Kyoto for about three centuries, and their name is synonymous with the highest quality and service. Ippodo tea is renowned in particular for its elegance and refinement.

At their Kaboku tearoom within the Kyoto main store, you may sample the very best matcha, gyokuro, sencha, hojicha and genmaicha. Whilst even the most expert of tea connoisseurs will find plenty here to delight, beginners need not be intimidated, as the helpful staff will guide you through the brewing and tasting process. Tea making workshops are also available.

We recommend you start with the simple sencha kaboku at ¥918, then, if you are feeling adventurous and well-heeled, the tenka-ichi gyokuro at ¥2,052. Its name means ‘the finest under heaven’ and you’ll see why.
