Chef Narisawa brings cocktails to the forest. In Tokyo!

Great friend of FGL, 'Best Chef in Asia' Yoshihiro Narisawa has opened a super cool new forest-themed cocktail bar in Tokyo's Aoyama 2-chome. Based on the concept 'Satoyama', Japan's 'return to traditional country values' movement, Bees Bar is a super chic leafy oasis in the heart of the Japanese capital. Open 5pm to 2am, Saturday to 11pm, closed Sunday & Monday. Extremely popular, so reservations are essential. Map is here.

'Sushi Cola' anyone?

Popular conveyor-best sushi outlet Kura Zushi has announced the release of 'Shari Cola', an amazake (sweet sake drink)-based soft drink containing kome-koji rice malt with an added touch of sushi rice vinegar for that added zing. Shari is the Japanese word for sushi rice. The unique beverage is available at all 388 Kura Zushi outlets as a thirst-quenching option through the hot summer months. Until September 14th. ¥180. Take-out available.

Vegan Forest 2018

One of the largest vegan events in Eastern Japan is slated to take place at the Spatio Kobuchizawa camp ground in Yamanashi Prefecture on July 29th, 10am to 4pm. Promoting all that is 'kind to life', it hopes to attract non-vegan visitors too. It's website explains, "regardless of age and preference, we aim to create a place where you can have fun". Vendors will offer vegan burgers, soups, bagels, and sweets as well as ethical cosmetics, and there will be vegan kids events, music and more. Admission is free. Map is here.

Now its makers, Coca-Cola Japan, announce release of a refreshing, citrus flavored mineral water, Sokenbisui, available from June 26th. Flavored with lemon, Onshu mikan from Ehime Prefecture, and yuzu peel, it's perfect for the hot Japanese summer. 180.

Cannabis Leaf Tempura in LA

US readers head to David Shlosser's clandestine chic Shibumi in downtown Los Angeles to try this incredible off-menu cannabis cuisine, but don't expect to get high. Shlosser explains that all the weed in his dishes is THC-free, and the real point is to draw attention to the health-giving properties of the plant. Shlosser previously lived in Tokyo and Kyoto, cooking for the US ambassador, and his kappo-style LA hideaway is garnering rave reviews. Open 6pm to 10.30pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Map is here.
