Consolidated Brand-name Products Using Carefully Selected Choice Tea Leaves That Are High-end Even Among "Omi no Cha"–"Gyokusen-cha Hiei" and "Lake Biwa Kabuse" Teas on Sale Simultaneously from September 15!

On September 15th, the Chamber of Tea Association of Shiga Prefecture released this year’s harvest of "Gyokusen-cha Hiei" and "Lake Biwa Kabuse", two consolidated brand-name products using carefully selected prime tea leaves that are high-end even among "Omi no Cha", a famous kind of tea which is mainly produced in the southern part of the prefecture.

A “consolidated brand-name product” is a high-quality tea made using only ingredients carefully selected from tea leaves harvested by producers in the prefecture in May of that year by a review board made up of quality appraisal professionals.

This year, the Chamber has decided that sales will commence simultaneously at specialty tea shops et al. in the prefecture on September 15th, which has been stipulated as the start of the season since 2015 in order to put in place a maturation period for increasing the tea’s umami.
